Dance shoes should fit firm but not constricting to the point of pain.  Generally latin shoes will stretch out about half a size within the first 3-4 wears as they grow and mould to fit the shape of your foot like a second skin. Some people believe choosing a size smaller than they usually take helps them dance better (although only ever with an open toe dance shoe, never attempt this with closed toed shoes of course).
